On March 25, 2020, according to the results of operational and search measures in the city of Nur-Sultan, the National Security Committee detained a member of a destructive religious movement.

He is suspected of preparing a terrorist attack within the capital city under the influence of international terrorist organization “Daesh” (banned in Kazakhstan). During the investigative actions a homemade explosive device with destructive elements was seized from the detainee.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched under the Articles 24 and 255 (preparation for an act of terrorism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The investigation is ongoing.
