On October 21, 2020, officers of the Department of the Border Service for the West Kazakhstan region (at the checkpoint "Syrym") prevented an attempt of smuggling contraband of sturgeon in the amount of 118 pieces in 19 bags.

The carrier concealed this cargo from inspection under onion bags.

The detained citizen of the Russian Federation was travelling by truck from the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation, and was handed over to the Police Division personnel of the Baiterek region.
